John Linke, Stirling
For the past 49 years John has been the local barber. He began his trade working for his father’s barber shop in Aldgate before moving into Stirling back in 1960.
“I like to do a good job – when I’m finished cutting someone’s hair I always want it to look good. I still have one customer who was my first ever haircut. I love talking to people and being part of their life. A lot of my customers share the good times and bad times of their life with me. I am now cutting the grand children of my original customers – that gives me a thrill but it also makes me feel old!”
He may feel old but he’s still very active and fit. John rides his pushbike to work 3 times a week, plays competition tennis for Hahndorf and works in his garden. “I don’t think I’ll ever retire – I wouldn’t meet anyone or have anyone to talk to”.
