THE HARDWARE AND FODDER STORE
John Cooper, Coopers Rural and Hardware Supplies.
Back in 1892 John’s great-great grandfather opened the fodder and hardware store that still operates in Mylor. John has been working in the store for the past 30 years. John and his two brothers bought the business from his father when he retired. The three brothers, along with their wives now run the business.
“The best part of the job for me would be our customers. The variety of people that come in and the people who live in the township of Mylor is terrific. Plus the job keeps you fit.” John likes being his own boss, “You can be the king of your own destiny.”
The Cooper’s Store is quite unique – most family run businesses don’t survive across more than three generations. With one of John’s sons now working in the business full-time and his other son there part-time we should still be seeing a friendly Cooper’s face for many years to come.
